The Simple Things in Life.

Another Earth

When attending the Sundance Film Festival this year in January there was one film that stood out above the rest. There were so many movies I didn't get the chance to see, saw some I wasn't crazy about and then there are the ones I have been wanting to watch over and over again since the festival ended. Another Earth is on of them. Fox Search Light Pictures.

{photo from Fox Search Light Pictures}

Written, directed and produced by Mike Cahill Another Earth is about the discovery of a duplicate Earth behind the sun and how the discovery plays a pivotal role in a volatile time in two peoples lives who have been drawn together by a tragic accident. Thought provoking, profound, emotionally stimulating and inspiring are a few words and phrases I would use to describe this movie and how I felt upon leaving the theater. What would you say to yourself if you had the opportunity? The real opportunity to see you the way others see you and a way to see yourself in a way you never would have been able to before. What would you give yourself?

Brit Marling is the leading actor who also helped write and produce the film. Meeting the entire cast and Mike Cahill at Sundance built an even deeper connection to the film for me knowing where the inspiration came from, how hard they worked on it and what the film meant to them.

Quick Snack: Roma Tomato's and Celery with Almond Butter

Sometimes a smaller lunch is ideal on a hot summer day. During the warmer season I constantly reach for water and iced tea and have smaller meals through out the day that are packed with nutrients and give me energy. Try sliced roma tomato's with cottage cheese sprinkled with a small amount of sea salt and pepper and celery sticks with fresh ground almond butter. To drink, freshly brewed green tea infused with lemon, orange and lime.

1/12 sliced roma tomato
1/3 cup of Cottage Cheese
Sprinkle desired amount of sea salt and pepper

two long celery sticks washed, trimmed and sliced into desired size
two tbls of almond butter

8oz of green tea with lemon

The Hair Necessities.

Those simple hair necessities. No matter what type of hair you have, there will be something here for you. Thick, fine, coarse, straight, curly, dull, brittle, damaged.. we all fit into one of these categories. I personally have very fine straight hair and getting a curl to hold is like asking a 5 year old to eat his vegetables. It isn't going to happen. And if it does, it doesn't last long. I've come across some hair products this week and fallen in love with them. So much that I wanted to share each individual product with all of you and why I love it so much. Also, this post probably should have been labeled "Fekkai".

1- Is your hair coarse, frizzy or do you simply have trouble with fly away's? Try this. Smooth Sailing Anti-Frizz Cream from Fekkai $24

Yes, my fine straight hair can get frizzy. Where I live theres not a whole lot of humidity but for one reason or another today I needed something to tame the frizz beast. I came across this product and fell in love with it. I only needed a small amount to run through all of my hair and it is very lightweight. Not only does it smell delicious and make your hair look shiny and alive, it protects your hair all day from humidity sealing in moisture and has a UV shield to prevent fading.

2- Does your hair lack volume and body like mine? Try Full Volume Shampoo from Fekkai

And the Full Volume Conditioner

The shampoo pumps up fine thin hair and gives noticeable body while the conditioner is gel-based so it is light weight and adds volume and shine to your hair. And it smells so good. There really is nothing sexier than having hair that smells good.

3- No matter what type of hair you have, you NEED Pureology Nanoworks in your house. Here is why...

-This product contains an exclusive blend of potent anti-oxidants that protect hair from UVA/UVB rays to protect hair from fading.
-Infuses hair with strength building ingredients such as Green Tea, Sugar Cane, Citrus, Apple an Wine Extracts to revive hair to its youthful condition.
-Deeply conditions hair for a sleek shine
-It smells so yummy. Can you tell I am big on smells?
This product is great at repairing hair and maintaining a healthy manageable body and glow.

4- This DryShine Hair Styler from Pureology is perfect for any type of hair and allows you to create flexible style and shine without greasiness or tackiness. It has a ZeroAlcohol formula and natural light reflecting minerals. All you need is a small amount worked into damp or dry hair and you're ready to style!

5- Last but not least, Aved'as Sun Care Protective Hair Veil.

Earning the Sun Smart Award from Shape Magazine this product is a summer MUST HAVE.
-Lightweight
-Water resistant
-Mist that forms an invisible screen to protect hair from sun exposure for up to 16 hours to minimize color fading, damage and dryness.

With these products not only will your hair smell amazing and give you styling control, you'll be strengthening and protecting your hair for long term benefits.

Seamless Summer Skin

I don't know about you but during summer, all I really want is effortless beautiful skin. That means I need stellar skincare and maybe Women's Health is onto something HERE with their top foods for perfect skin. I loved this article because yes, I truly believe "we are what we eat". Also, getting your daily water intake wouldn't hurt. REAL SIMPLE had a great article on this very idea, Does Drinking More Water Hydrate Skin?

Research and determine for yourself what you think and feel as far as dietary aid in perfecting your skin goes. Everyones bodies react differently and you know your body better than I do. When it comes to the surface, I have some skincare and beauty tips for a summery glow!

Let's start with skincare:

1- Having a good cleanser is key.

Bare Escentuals Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser. At only $26 this product is affordable and honestly, I'd pay more for how amazing it is. It can be used daily, is great for ALL skin types and is even gentle enough for those with rosacia or any other sensitivity. It has an ingredient called Colloidal Oatmeal which gently exfoliates the skin removing excess oil and dry skin. It boost cell turn over, provides antioxidant protection and leaves the skin smooth and hydrated. It never leaves you with that "squeaky clean" feeling. If your cleanser does this, it is stripping your skin of its natural essential oils that provide your skin necessary moisture. This product will help improve the brightness, texture and over all appearance of skin.

With such an amazing cleanser, I have found I need less actual makeup or foundation because the appearance of my skin has gotten so much better. I recommend many different types of foundation but for now I am only going to focus on two of them.

2- Foundation/cover up:

For those of you who love a soft and natural glow, and lets be honest, are terrified of liquid foundation.. the BareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation in Original is just for you.

First things first-
LESS IS MORE PEOPLE.
Only $25! This foundation only has 5 ingredients and thats all you need! When you hear other cosmetic lines with "mineral" products claim "It's better because it has 75 mineral ingredients which is more!"... And?? Yes, I have heard this before. Please just kindly walk away and buy this BareMinerals foundation. This foundation is talc free, oil free, zero preservatives and no parabens. It helps improve the appearance of skin over time, doesn't cake up and brightens. Yes its a powder, is it dry? Absolutely not. Its a powder that as buffed onto the skin becomes more of a creamy texture and glides on for a perfect even coverage.

For those of you who enjoy/prefer a liquid, try Bobbi Browns Natural Finish Long Lasting Foundation SPF 15

At $46 its a good thing a small amount of this product goes a long way. This product lasts all day and offers a matte finish to eliminate the need to set with or touch up with any powder through out the day. The foundation contains sponge-like powders that absorb oil on top of the skin and emollients that help lock in moisture. A transfer resistant formula is not only nice for not leaving a prize on your man's shirt but it also creates a barrier on the skin protecting from heat and humidity for an all day wear. I love this product!

Now that we have the skin covered, lets move to color.

3- Blush:

This summer, I'm going with MAC Cosmetics newly reformulated Cremeblend Blush in LadyBlush.

$19.50 is a reasonable price for a blush. Ladyblush is the perfect tone for summer. A touch of pink, coral and nude brown give this the perfect flush color for summer. These blushes have a great pigment offering a buildable medium coverage, natural dewy and smooth finish.

4- Eyes:

During the summer I just make sure I have a great mascara and eyeliner. These are my favorites.

Coffee Eye Pencil from MAC $13

A great price point and they last forever! This is a black brown shade that gives an instant sultry look to the eyes.

Bare Escentuals Flawless Definition Mascara
$18

Buildable coverage and no clumping! The small bristle size makes this product great for any eye shape, no tar or parabens also makes this product ok for sensitive eyes.

The final touch?

5- Lips!:

An oldie and a goodie. Nars Lipgloss in Turkish Delight

This iconic NARS shade is smooth, non-sticky, comfortable to wear and enriched with vitamin E to keep your lips healthy and smooth.

Feel like you're ready for summer?

An Introduction: A Snapshot of the Fashion Enthusiast, Food Lover, Makeup Slinger and Avid Writer and Creator of Bloom in Saturation

I feel as though a formal introduction is in place. I started this blog as a way for me to expose my love for makeup and all the freelancing work that I do in hopes of inspiring others and having a place for those interested in working with me to see my work and what I am all about. As I started the blog I quickly became inspired to share all my other passions such as: food and eating healthily, fashion, local business in the SLC I adore, positive thinking, cooking, travel, makeup and so forth. My blog has a long way to go and I owe all of my followers (even the silent ones ;)) a HUGE thank you. It means more to me than words could ever express. I love interacting with people who are passionate about what they do. We only live once and we need to take this life and go after the things we love and surround ourselves with people who love us, support us and inspire us. Dream big and work hard!

I'm just as simple as any girl. I hardly make my bed and I'm addicted to technology.

I have yet to blog a fashion post featuring myself in my favorite pieces from my closet. When you are in the process of moving (out of state no less), lots of things are stowed away in garbage bags and cardboard boxes. This hat and and blouse however, though seen roughly before, I give you now a snapshot of what I love about fashion.

The harsh texture of the hat along side the soft shiny contrasting texture of the black ribbon is one key element alone. You bring two elements together and create something timeless. Texture gives life to anything whether it be an article of clothing or even the type of makeup you choose for a photo shoot. Color choice is key as well. The deep warm caramel tone is a tone I have always loved especially with black key pieces intertwined. This hat is classic. When I am 60 I will still be wearing it.

Upon seeing this blouse at Koo.de.ker in Salt Lake City UT, I knew it had to be mine. This blouse is the piece of clothing you can wear to an event or feel beautiful in while you're out running errands. The blouse is 100% polyester, sheer all the way through despite the double layering, dips low in the back, fits loosely on the arms until the small cuffs at the wrists and the criss cross straps over the chest area makes this piece one of a kind. It looks like someone hand washed the blouse, rung it tightly out to dry and left all the tiny little creases. Again, texture playing a key role. The strong lines blending with the soft flow of this blouse won me over.

Sunny Lime

I am always looking for shoes. Whether they be timeless classy heels, summer wedges or environmentally friendly sneakers like these Cirka Ripstop Women's Sneaker from Tretorn in Sunny Lime.

Having a good pair of sneakers to wear with your errand clothes is priceless. I am a simple person and that shows through when I find gems like this. As simple as I may be, I have been known to fall for a pair of studded heels, black Steve Madden wedges and even gold sparkly platform heels from you guessed it... Steve Madden. When I want a piece in my closet that is classy, timeless, sexy and affordable I turn to Steve Madden and Marc Jacobs.

Featured once before, my love the Steve Madden black wedge.

These have my name written ALL over them. Why? because they are classy, sleek, simple, bold, sexy and casual all at the same time. You can wear these with a gorgeous blouse and summer shorts or skinny jeans and a t-shirt. Any way you wear them, you win.

What about a night on the town? I chose what I think is an unconventional shoe for the normal night out look. Check out the Sam Edelman 'Noura'.

They are perfect for summer with the taupe and caramel tones. I love that the peep toe makes them look so feminine and confident while the back heel support and overlaying straps look strong and masculine right above a thin elegant heel. These scream simplicity meets confidence.

Its summer, and we can't get through summer without some great sandals. Here are some of my top picks:

1- Jessica Simpson 'Jacqui' Flip Flop

2- Mui Mui Yellow Suede Sandals

3-Naughty Monkey Beethoven Cream Wedge Sandals

Which ones are your favorites? What is your favorite shoe for summer?

The "Small Things".

Its like... a new pair of clean socks. The smell of freshly washed sheets. Someone reaching for your hand. Your favorite band playing a concert on a summer night. Spontaneous trips to nowhere. The perfect new nail polish. Quality time with friends and family. Finding $5 in an old coat. Turning your phone off for the weekend. You know how all of this feels.

Today, my "Simple Thing" is having a full fridge. A fridge full of healthy foods that keep me happy and keep me away from processed, sugar filled vessels my body doesn't need. I did some damage at Whole Foods but for an entire week, I will have healthy planned meals that keep my mind clear and my energy up. Now to tackle work out classes this week!

What is your "Simple Thing" this week?

Full, happy fridge.

Mango's for my smoothies. YUM.

Summer Time Traditions.

If you don't go to a drive-in movie a few times during the summer, I'd go so far as to say there may be something wrong with you. I remember summer nights when my parents would take me and my brothers to the drive-in and it was the latest we were ever allowed to stay up, the only time I could enjoy nacho's AND red vines and growing up I was infatuated with movies. Which is probably why I am still an avid film follower today.

Now that I'm older.. drive-in trips are a fun way to go out with friends, enjoy summer nights and enjoy things like candy and beer which aren't part of my regular diet.

What summer traditions do you look forward to every year??
